Windows 7 is Microsoft's new operating system. New PC's are being sold with it pre-loaded and it is likely to replace XP and Vista in the corporate environment very soon. Many PC users are staying with the older systems and do not realize how user friendly and trouble free the new OS is. The move from XP will take place slowly as the hardware it was suppled with, becomes obsolete. Upgrading from Vista is fairly simple and the users should initially find it very similar. However the user-friendliness of Windows 7 will soon become apparent. Having been on Paltalk since 2001, I am wondering why Paltalk is not grasping the opportunity to take advantage of the attributes and potential of the new OS. When installing Paltalk, the default settings will be found to favour users of XP with SP3. (See 'Properties' - 'Compatability', when right clicking on the Paltalk Icon on your desktop.) Personal experience and requests in a Tech Help Room for ways to overcome problems with controlling audio levels - when using Paltalk on a PC running Win7, prompted me to test each setting provided. The only way I overcame the problem was to remove all compatability in the icon settings before using it to activate Paltalk. (This was reported under Ticket ID: LTK4260796340X). I would like to receive comments from other users who may have used other work-arounds to overcome the problem or those looking for a solution.
Not all users experience this. So far only 2 soundcards have been identified as with this issue and proceeding as instructed will effectively solve the sliders issue.
Hi Afonso, thanks for the feedback. I am an Admin in the PcTech room and the number of people who have asked for help on this issue, have indicated a number of different sound cards in their systems. The symptom of reverting to the default settings has nothing to do with the sound card. It only occurrs on Vista or Windows 7. On these OS's the compatability selected and 'applied' is ignored in the Paltalk configuration. Each time the pc is booted up from a 'cold' start, it goes back to XP with SP2.
My personal experience is using four systems. There are two running Win7 Ult 64 bit. One has a Realtek HD, one has an ATI/VIA HD. These ones exhibit the problem. The third system is XP Pro 64 Bit with an ATI/VIA HD. The fourth has Soundmax on an XP Pro 32 Bit system. These are the ones that have no problem because the default compatability is none.
It seems to be prevalent on systems running Vista or Win 7 only.
